Edison and Ocean View made sure Wednesday was another wild and crazy night in the Sunset League.

The last time they played, Ocean View rallied to win by scoring the game’s final 17 points. This time around, the Seahawks scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter on their way to a 69-62 victory.

The Seahawks (14-8, 10-3 in the league) clinched second place with the victory. Third-place Edison is 17-7, 9-4 and wondering why it can’t put away Ocean View.

Wednesday, Edison took advantage of Ocean View’s sleep-walk through the first half to take a 31-22 halftime lead. But Ocean View’s ragged play might have earned the Seahawks a victory in the end. Coach Jim Harris, in a relentless search for productivity, substituted early and often and that helped wear down Edison, he said.

“I thought Edison played better than us,” Harris said. “They just ran out of gas. I played so many guys trying to find the right combination, that’s probably why (Edison was so tired).”

With Ocean View seemingly unable to accomplish the simplest of tasks in the first half, Edison took control early and built a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Chargers’ lead was nine points and Ocean View trudged off the floor looking beaten.

Harris chewed his players out so thoroughly during the break that they didn’t have time to warm up. No matter, the Seahawks came out firing three-pointers.

Doug Hansen, a reserve guard, made four three-pointers in the quarter, Sean Goodgame scored six points and when Jim Harris, the coach’s son, banked home a short jumper with two seconds left, the score was tied, 46-46.

At this point, Edison’s fuel gauge hit empty.

Harris made a three-pointer to open the final quarter and then hit another a moment later. Mike Carney, a seldom-used guard, dropped in a three-pointer. Chad Pickens scored from close range. Greg Rosenberg made two free throws. And suddenly, Ocean View had a comfortable 59-46 lead.

“We’re up and down like a roller coaster,” Harris said. “We can be a pretty good team if we can be consistent. We’re 10-3 in league, so we must be doing something right.”

Harris finished with 23 points and Hansen had five three-pointers. Edison’s Micah Kroeger had 27 points.
