BURBANK : City Hall Observes 50th Anniversary
The city of Burbank will celebrate the 50th anniversary of City Hall today with a ceremony, open house and refreshments.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of City Hall and will include speeches by Mayor Robert R. Bowne and representatives of the Burbank Historical Society and the Burbank Civic Pride Committee.
“That is exactly 50 years to the minute,” said Cinda Cates, public information specialist for Burbank. City Hall was dedicated Feb. 12, 1943, at 1:30 p.m., Cates said.
Howard Stites, 92, who was city manager in 1943 and who supervised the construction of the building, will attend the ceremony, Cates said.
City Hall will be open Friday for self-guided tours from 1 to 3 p.m., and docents will be present to explain the history of the building, the architecture and the murals, Cates said.
Memory Lane, a three-piece combo, will play music from the ‘40s, and the Black Knights Drum Corps, a local youth group, will also perform. Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burbank Ship 8310, will serve as the color guard.
