COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Texas’ Four-Run Eighth Inning Topples Titans
Texas scored four runs on one hit in the eighth inning for a 13-11 victory over Cal State Fullerton Friday at Texas.
The fifth-ranked Titans (2-2), led 11-9 going into the eighth but walked the bases loaded. After a wild pitch and a walk, pinch-hitter Darrick Duke doubled to give the Longhorns a 12-11 lead.
Dante Powell had three hits and six runs batted in for the Titans. He had a three-run double in the fourth and a three-run homer, his third, in the seventh.
In another nonconference baseball game:
Chapman 5, UC Riverside 1--Chapman scored two in the fifth and two in the sixth and Corey Giuliano allowed seven hits to earn the victory for the host Panthers (4-3). Chapman’s Jed Shafer drove in two runs. Riverside is 2-5.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
California 5, UC Irvine 2--Aaron Stolpman and Fred Bach won their singles matches for the visiting Anteaters (3-2). Cal is 2-1.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
CS Northridge 3, UC Irvine 0--Peter Piexoto had 14 kills and Axel Hager and Ken Lynch each has 12 for visiting Northridge (8-3, 3-2).
In nonconference women’s gymnastics:
Stanford 189.30, CS Fullerton 187.50--Cristi Clifford won the individual all-around with a 38.75 for the No. 11-ranked Titans but No. 19- ranked Stanford won.
