Countywide : 2 Schools Finalists for National Honors

Two Ventura County schools are finalists for the National Blue Ribbon School award given by thS. Department of Education, officials said Tuesday.

The finalists arO. Green Junior High School in Oxnard and Oak Park High School in Oak Park. A reviewer will visit each school within two months as part of the final selection process. A handful of Blue Ribbon Schools are selected each year.

Criteria for a Blue Ribbon award include test scores, curriculum, parental involvement and school leadership.

“We surely don’t plan to let them leave here without convincing them that there is merit in their decision to interview here,” E. O. Green Principal Deloris Carn said. “There is a feeling throughout the campus that the students are No. 1.”

At Oak Park High, Principal Jeff Chancer said the school is “really excited and pleased. We feel that we’ll be able to justify everything in our application.”

Five Ventura County schools have received Blue Ribbon School awards. The most recent winner was Oak Hills Elementary School in Oak Park, part of the same school district as Oak Park High.
