CAMARILLO : Planners Back Proposed Bird Law

Share

The Camarillo Planning Commission on Tuesday recommended a proposed ordinance limiting how many small, medium and large birds residents can keep.

The proposed ordinance, which will go to the City Council for approval, would allow residents to keep up to 10 small birds and five medium-sized birds per 1,500 square feet of lot area, and a total of four large birds.

Under the proposed law, small birds would be those that typically weigh less than half a pound, such as canaries and finches.

Birds weighing between half a pound and 1 pound, a range that includes some cockatoos, would be defined as medium-sized. No more than 20 medium-sized birds would be allowed on any property, no matter how large the site.

Only those birds that typically weigh more than 1 pound, such as macaws, would be classified as large.

No peacocks would be permitted.
