Monrovia : Myrtle Ave. Zoning Changes

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to expand the permitted uses for the city’s historic downtown Myrtle Avenue commercial center.
Under the amended zoning laws, administrative and professional offices and fitness centers will be allowed to lease space in buildings with open areas of 5,000 square feet or larger.
The idea to attract new tenants to the downtown area came from a merchants committee concerned with longtime vacancies in some of the area’s larger buildings, such as the old Social Security building.
David Gayman, president of the merchants committee, said there has been a problem attracting retail tenants to the large buildings. “Practically speaking, it’s not going to happen,” Gayman said.
The new guidelines would allow medical offices, law firms and health clubs on Myrtle Avenue.
