Marina del Rey : Harbor Director Sought

Share

A nationwide search for a new administrator to oversee operation of Marina del Rey and county beaches has been launched by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The recruitment of a new director for the county Department of Beaches and Harbors became necessary when former Director Ted Reed retired in December.

Reed’s departure came after a long and sometimes stormy stewardship of the county-owned marina. His approach to managing the county’s long-term leases with marina developers had been repeatedly criticized by Supervisor Gloria Molina.

After Reed retired, former Assistant Director Eric Bourdon returned from retirement to run the department during the search for a permanent replacement.

A recruitment plan unanimously approved by the supervisors Tuesday calls for the county’s chief administrative officer to give the board a list of five finalists by the end of April.

The supervisors approved spending as much as $16,500 to cover the expenses of out-of-town candidates and interviewers. But they deferred a final decision on whether to offer a prospective director special financial incentives to cover housing expenses and other costs associated with relocating to Southern California.
