LONG BEACH : Stockpile of Illegal Weapons Confiscated

Share

A stockpile of illegal weapons usually associated with urban guerrillas was seized from three Long Beach apartments late Wednesday, breaking open what police believe is a ring that smuggled guns in exchange for drugs.

Silencers, Russian-made night-vision scopes, grenades and a rocket launcher were found, along with 50 pounds of marijuana and $90,000 cash in two apartments in the 2200 block of Lime Avenue and the 1600 block of Poinsettia Avenue, police said. Many of the weapons appear to have been purchased through mail orders, said Police Detective Kris Nelson.

Police arrested Fernando Reyes, 44, at the Poinsettia address, and two brothers, Gilberto Banuelos, 37, and Rodrigo Banuelos, 30, on Lime Avenue. All three were booked on suspicion of possessing machine guns and marijuana and are being held on $1 million bail.
