An agent for four Cubans who defected last year with hopes of signing professional baseball contracts has withdrawn his threat to take Major League Baseball to court to have his clients declared unlimited free agents.

Gary D. Fidler, a Woodland Hills lawyer, said after the players complete their petition for political asylum, he plans to arrange a special tryout in Florida, to be followed by a lottery to determine which team can negotiate with each player.

The four players involved are outfielder Alexis Cabreja, 23; infielder Osmani Estrada, 23; and pitcher Ivan Alvarez, 22, all of whom defected in October; and outfielder Lazaro Gonzalez, 20, who defected last December.
