A lawyer for Lloyd’s of London said Brian Bosworth’s career with the Seattle Seahawks was ended by arthritis and not an injury.
“What really brought about his permanent disability was not that one play but years of an accumulative effective of osteo-arthritis,” Tom Merrick of Lloyd’s told jurors at Bosworth’s insurance lawsuit trial.
Bosworth’s NFL career came to an end in a game against the Phoenix Cardinals in 1989, when he injured his right shoulder while tackling running back Ron Wolfley.
If Bosworth wins his case, he could be awarded up to $7 million in claims as a payoff for insurance policies taken out on his behalf by the Seahawks.
