Chadwick 4, Salesian 1--Tony Tapia’s lone goal was the only bright spot for the visiting Mustangs, who succumbed to a muddy field and an outstanding Chadwick squad in a Southern Section Division V first-round playoff match Friday.

The Dolphins dominated the game, using the soggy conditions to their advantage by working the ball up the field with deft passing and preventing the faster Mustangs from executing their breakaway-style offense.

Chadwick’s Adam Ferris and Sean Amberg each scored early in the game as Salesian goalkeeper German Barrajas was caught out of position each time.

Tapia’s score came just before halftime to bring the score to 2-1. The Mustangs mounted a spirited attack in the second half, but the Dolphins came back when Andy Nystrom scored on a header after taking a corner kick from Andrew Davidson.

Moments later, Chadwick scored again as Ethan Boyd knocked a deflected ball past the flailing Barrajas.
