SOUTH GATE : City Hall, Offices Closed on Fridays
City Hall and parks and recreation offices are now closed Fridays because city employees have switched to a four-day workweek.
Instead of working eight hours a day, five days a week, employees are putting in four 10-hour days, officials said.
The change, which reduces employee commuting by 20%, is aimed at helping South Gate comply with Air Quality Management District requirements to reduce pollution.
New Monday-through-Thursday business hours are 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 5 p.m. at City Hall, 8650 California Ave., and at the Parks and Recreation Department administrative office, 4900 Southern Ave., in South Gate Park. Other park facilities also have new hours: the Girls Clubhouse, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and the Sports Center, noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The water department cashier at City Hall and the main switchboard will remain open during the 11:30 a.m.-to-12:30 p.m. lunch hour for people who want to pay water bills or obtain information.
