Temple City : Contracts for 2 School Officials Not Renewed

Share

The Board of Education recently convened at five minutes to midnight to announce personnel changes, including that the contracts of an assistant superintendent and a principal will not be renewed.

Board members decided Feb. 10 not to renew the contracts of Assistant Supt. Richard Harris, a 12-year district employee, and Oak Avenue Intermediate School Principal Jerry Childs, Supt. Clint Taylor said.

Taylor said four hours of public comment on the district’s budget in the regular board meeting, followed by a closed session to discuss personnel, caused the timing of the announcement in open session near midnight.

Harris was departing as part of district cost-cutting, he said, and in Childs’ case the school needed a change. They will be offered teaching positions when the changes take effect July 1, Taylor said.

In other personnel changes, Bill Brod, principal of Temple City High School, was promoted to director of secondary schools service. Bill Brown, special projects director, will be director of elementary schools services.

Childs will be replaced by Emperor Elementary School Principal Jeff Sweeney, whose job will be taken over by Kathy Perini, Oak Avenue assistant principal.

Oak Avenue Assistant Principal Douglas Sears will head the district’s planned alternative high school.
