Merged Rail and Bus Systems

Share

In response to “New York Official to Head Huge L.A. Transit Agency,” Feb. 5:

I applaud the merger of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and the Rapid Transit District into the new Metropolitan Transportation Authority, combining the administration of our public rail and bus systems. Would Franklin White and the other leaders of this new agency consider the development of an integrated, stored-value fare card that could be used on both systems? To my knowledge, Singapore is the only city (state) in the world that uses integrated fare cards (their system even gives users a partial rebate for transfers between systems, automatically).

Hong Kong and Taiwan recently sent delegations to Singapore to study its hugely successful setup. Maybe Los Angeles could do the same.
