WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Williams Leads UCLA’s 85-68 Upset of No. 23 Cal

Natalie Williams had 22 points and 16 rebounds as UCLA defeated No. 23 California, 85-68, Sunday in a Pacific 10 Conference basketball game at the Wooden Center.

Williams, the nation’s leading rebounder with 14 per game, has led the Bruins (11-11 overall, 6-7 in the Pac-10) in rebounding in all 18 of her games. She has had more than 10 points and 10 rebounds in one game 17 times.

Michelle Palmisano and Amy Jalewalia had 18 points each for UCLA. The Bruins opened the game with an 18-6 run en route to a 40-25 halftime lead and Cal (14-7, 6-6) never caught up.

The Golden Bears were as close as nine points with 13 minutes to play before UCLA pulled away by scoring nine consecutive points.

Milica Vukadinovic had 23 points, nine steals and seven rebounds for Cal.

No. 18 USC 78, CS Northridge 36--Lisa Leslie had 23 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as the Trojans routed the Matadors at Northridge.

Leslie made seven of eight free throws, ending her streak of 22 in a row. USC (17-5) opened the game with a 17-2 run and led, 36-13, at halftime as the Matadors made only 21% of their shots (five of 23).

Michelle Esparza had 17 points for Northridge (5-18).
