Respecting General Plans

Share

Will our area retain its quality of life, which residents moved here to enjoy? We will if elected officials uphold our long-range general plans, which are the blueprint for development at ultimate build-out. Created through a process of evaluation and compromise, general plans describe the anticipated land use and density at which the area can be prudently developed. Save Open Space’s main purpose is to see that General Plans are upheld in the face of worsening traffic congestion and non-attainment of our air quality.

The balance built into the General Plan to ensure our quality of life at build-out is seriously threatened by the upzoning approval to allow the Ahmanson “mini-city” by the county Board of Supervisors. We commend Supervisor Susan Lacey, who stood firm against the powerful pressures of the developer and the governor’s office to preserve the county’s open space and General Plan. The precedent number of lawsuits, nine in all, shows regional concerns for the devastating and unmitigated impacts on natural resources, traffic and air quality which the massive Ahmanson project will bring.
