Statement by Supervisor Roth

Share
Here is the statement that Supervisor Don R. Roth read Tuesday upon announcing his resignation in the face of a criminal influence-peddling investigation:

Madam chairman and board members, I have reached a difficult decision. After much deliberation, I am announcing my resignation from the Board of Supervisors effective March 1, 1993.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of Orange County and the 4th District. I have done so to the best of my ability since joining the board in 1987. It has been a great privilege to work with a talented county staff and such fine colleagues as Harriett Wieder, Tom Riley, Roger Stanton and Gaddi Vasquez.

However, it has become clear to me that the controversy surrounding the investigation by the district attorney is taking its toll on my ability to fulfill my official responsibilities. The office of supervisor requires full-time attention to constituent interests and concerns. It requires that each board member fully concentrate on important countywide issues. It requires a total focus on public service.

I have devoted 37 years of my life to public service, 20 years active duty in the United States Navy and 17 years in city and county government. I am proud of my military service and the many accomplishments achieved as mayor of Anaheim and supervisor. I want to thank all those who have worked with me over the years. I am honored to have known you and I wish you well.

God bless.
