Health Care Reform Debate

Share

President and Mrs. Clinton see that a serious problem exists because so many working Americans do not have health insurance. Most of the working people without “access,” as they call it, choose not to have coverage. The real problem of high medical care cost can be solved better by individual actions than by government intervention.

Much of current health care costs can be attributed to unwise behavior in diet, sexual practices, violence and drugs. Education that modifies behavior is the key to stemming health care inflation.

Also individuals must get over their aversion to writing a check directly to the doctor. This would put a downward pressure on fees and eliminate paperwork.

Working people can and should carry their own catastrophic insurance coverage. Policies with a $1,000 or $2,000 deductible are affordable, and Uncle Sam could help by making them a tax deductible item.

These true changes would help assure our influence over the health care system rather than the “system” controlling us.
