BURBANK : Heart Failure Cited in Death of Inmate
An inmate who stopped breathing while in custody at the Burbank jail, died later at a hospital from apparent heart failure, Burbank police said Wednesday.
Garnell Theopolous Cooper, 48, a transient, was arrested Tuesday at 8:10 a.m. on suspicion of public drunkenness. Later that day, he was discovered not breathing during a regular check of his cell about 2 p.m., Sgt. Bob Brode said. Cooper was taken to Thompson Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead of apparent cardiac arrest.
