Playa del Rey : Some Bluffs Controls to Stay

Share

The Los Angeles City Council has directed city planners to draft an ordinance extending temporary controls on development along the western reaches of the Westchester Bluffs.

But the proposal by Councilwoman Ruth Galanter drops all areas east of Lincoln Boulevard from the interim control ordinance, which has regulated construction on the bluffs for nearly five years.

Galanter’s action mirrors that of the city Planning Commission, which last month removed the eastern area from a proposed plan to govern building along the scenic bluffs. Property owners in the area had objected to the proposed restrictions.

The motion, which was unanimously approved last week by the council, instructs the city Planning Department to prepare a revised ordinance that regulates various aspects of construction on the bluffs, including the height of buildings and maximum amount of land coverage on a lot.
