System Needs Changing

Share

An ex-gang member, 23, of Mission Hills has tried very hard to conform to society’s way of life. He has given up his previous ways of fighting in the streets, only to find that he still must fight “the system.”

He recently applied for a cafeteria job with the L.A. Unified School District and was told he had the job. On his last meeting, he went to fill out the final paperwork, only to be told that they could not give him the job because he was a felon and that he would have to wait 10 years before he could be hired.

With hopelessness in his heart, the boy cut his wrists. He lived, but how does the government and society expect these boys to change if they’re never given a chance?

I will pursue this matter until something is done to change our system.
