PLACENTIA : Meetings in Spanish to Aid Businesses
In the wake of a murder at a restaurant in the Placita Santa Fe district, a series of meetings for Spanish-speaking business owners has been announced by Mayor Maria Moreno.
The first meeting will be held March 22, possibly with a representative from the Orange County Fire Department. Another meeting will offer information from the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Department. The program will be in Spanish and target businesses that serve or sell beer, wine and other forms of alcohol.
While the exact content of the ABC program has not been determined, Moreno said the information will likely focus on the agency’s function, what help businesses can receive from the ABC, and state laws and regulations pertaining to establishments with liquor licenses.
“I’m concerned that there isn’t enough information available for business owners” who don’t speak English, Moreno said. “I also think there isn’t enough networking being done between the agencies and businesses.”
The mayor said she had planned for several months to initiate the meetings, and had talked to a representative from the Placentia Chamber of Commerce about which agencies to contact. The murder last Saturday outside the 301 Cafe on Santa Fe Avenue convinced her of the need for information.
Other agencies scheduled to meet with business owners include the Police Department and the Small Business Administration.
