Illegal Immigrants’ Health Costs Burden on U.S.

Share

Steve Bosselman (“Dying Man’s Plight Poses Dilemma,” Letters, Feb. 21), like many others, seems to have missed some of the reasons behind our ever-rising health costs. It is the hospital, and ultimately the other patients, who foot most of Pedrosa’s bill.

Obviously, no institution, other than our debt-ridden federal government, can avoid bankruptcy long by providing expensive services without compensation unless such cost is passed on to others.

It still puzzles me why we can fund and build a space station but are unable to erect a less penetrable border.

It would certainly make the task easier for our Border Patrol and avoid some of the injuries sustained by these illegal immigrants whose care again is largely provided gratis by our health care system. I think it is always easy for anyone to voice compassion until it hits their own wallets.

Putting the blame on our INS or health care system for Fernando Pedrosa’s plight is like cursing the weatherman for the rainstorm.
