One man remained missing Saturday night after he became separated from two friends while skiing in Wrightwood, at the border of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy said.

The Oxnard man, whose name was not released, lost contact with his friend about 4:30 p.m. while skiing at the Mountain High ski area, Deputy Diane Hecht said. Richard Reese, 28, of Oxnard returned to the resort on his own and reported his friends missing.

Hector Jesus Pedroza, 32, of Oxnard was rescued from the top of the mountain by ski patrol officers, after he hiked to a mountain top telephone and called for help at about 8 p.m., Hecht said. His condition was unknown Saturday night.

Hecht said it was unclear how the three men became separated. The search continued for the third man late Saturday night, she said.
