‘The Cay’ Worthwhile

We are a group of literature students. We are upset about the article about “The Cay” by author Theodore Taylor.

We have all read this book and we have not found any offensive statements. We did find a feeling of love and bonding between the old black man and the white boy. As the book progresses, the understanding and love between the two grow stronger.

“The Cay” won 11 literary awards and is recommended by the Reading Aloud Program. It is also on at least six recommended reading lists. This shows that many adults find this book to be worthwhile reading for children. We as a group agree.
