SANTA ANA : Police Seek Help in Finding Boy’s Killer

Share

Police on Monday asked for help in solving the case of a 2-year-old Santa Ana boy who was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting last week.

A gunman in a car shot Esteban Zavala Martinez in the head Thursday night as the boy rested in his father’s arms, police said.

Homicide investigators have made no arrests in connection with the shooting, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 600 block of North Garfield Street. Detectives said they believe seven men were in the car from which the shot was fired. The car was described as a white, older-model Monte Carlo.

“The information we have is so sketchy,” said Lt. Robert Helton.

Investigators said they think the assailants may have mistaken the victim’s father for someone else.

Police urged anyone with information to call investigators at (714) 647-5150. Helton said the department can take calls 24 hours a day and that callers can be connected to English- or Spanish-speaking investigators.
