Glendale : YMCA to Run Island Camp
Glendale Family YMCA is taking over operation of Whites Landing Girl Scout Camp on Santa Catalina Island, with the permission of Santa Catalina Island Conservancy.
According to Jim Broman, director of Camp Fox, the Glendale YMCA-operated facility next to Whites Landing, his camp could not accommodate demand for its use. Operation of the second camp was taken over “to have more people involved in the camp experience.”
Island Conservancy, which owns 86% of the island, permitted the YMCA to take over when the Angeles Girl Scout Council decided not to renew its lease on Whites Landing for 1993.
