COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans’ Jackson Scores 19 Points in Upset Victory

Allison Jackson scored 19 points to help Cal State Fullerton upset the defending conference champion UC Santa Barbara, 68-64, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Titan Gym.

With the victory, the Titans (8-18, 5-13) clinched a berth in the postseason conference tournament finishing seventh. Santa Barbara (15-11, 13-5), the defending conference champions, finished third in the Big West.

Shefonda Colbert had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Tara Nowling had a career-high 12 rebounds for the Titans, who led by as many as 12 points in the second half.

At the NCCAA National men’s basketball tournament:

North Central (Minneapolis) 89, Pacific Christian 84--Charles Ross had 26 points and 14 rebounds, and Jerry Hurst added 24 for Pacific Christian (25-14), which finished fourth at the tournament in Springfield, Mo.

In the Oscar Mayer Baseball Classic:

Minnesota 11, Cal State Fullerton 3--Adam Millan had two hits, including a double and two RBIs, for seventh-ranked Fullerton (7-6) at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Losing pitcher Jon Ward (0-2), from Huntington Beach High, allowed five runs without recording an out in the first inning as Minnesota (6-5) took a 7-0 lead after two innings.

In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Point Loma Nazarene 7-1, Christ College Irvine 3-4--Dan Davis allowed no earned runs in seven innings and hit a two-run double in the first to lead the Eagles (6-5-1) to a seven-inning victory in the second game. Davis also had three hits in the first game.

In nonconference baseball:

Chapman 3, Long Beach State 1--Bert Horn pitched a six-hitter, and Buster Nietzke drove in two runs on a fifth-inning double for Chapman (9-10).

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 6, UC San Diego 1--Sophomore Shannon Moreno had two hits and three RBIs for SCC (8-5-2).
