SIMI VALLEY : Donation to Fund Easter Egg Hunt

Share

A corporate donation has saved the Easter bunny from extinction for some children in the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District by subsidizing this April’s 16th annual Easter Egg Hunt.

“T. J. Maxx came through in the eleventh hour and they’re totally funding the event,” said park district spokesman Rick Johnson. The nationwide clothing store chain with a branch in Simi Valley will pay the $3,300 cost of staging the event at three parks in the east county district, Johnson said.

The spring tradition was threatened by cuts of about $1 million to the park district’s $7.6-million budget for this fiscal year, Johnson said. The shortage of money may still force the park district to drop the popular Huck Finn Fishing Derby and its Halloween party.

This year’s egg hunt, free to children under 8 years old, will begin at 10 a.m. April 10 at Rancho Simi Community Park and Rancho Tapo Community Park in Simi Valley and Mae Boyar Park in Oak Park.

At each site, the estimated 3,500 participants will be separated into three age categories, Johnson said.
