Times Mirror Forms Committee to Study, Resolve Operations Issues

Times Mirror Co. on Thursday announced the creation of a corporate-wide Operations Committee and several related senior management appointments.

The Los Angeles-based media company, which publishes the Los Angeles Times, said Senior Vice President Curtis A. Hessler will chair the committee.

Donald F. Wright, senior vice president, will serve as deputy chairman.

“The Operations Committee has a mandate to raise, consider and resolve issues involving strategic resources allocation, new business development, corporate infrastructure and shared services that cut across various Times Mirror businesses,” Chairman and Chief Executive Robert F. Erburu said in a statement.

Times Mirror’s Management Committee, a separate body, will continue to deal with policy and governance issues.

The company also announced several management changes:

* Group Vice President Edward E. Johnson, who oversees professional information and most book publishing companies, has been named senior vice president and will assume responsibility over Times Mirror’s three management training companies.

* Richard T. Schlosberg III, who is responsible for the company’s five eastern newspapers as group vice president, has been appointed senior vice president and will also be responsible for magazine operations.

* Larry W. Wangberg, president and chief executive of Times Mirror Cable Television and a corporate vice president, has been promoted to group vice president and will become a member of the management committee.

* Patrick A. Clifford, corporate vice president for medical, scientific, technical and college publishing, has been promoted to group vice president.
