Jeff King led a breakaway pack of six mushers into the abandoned gold-mining town of Iditarod that marks the halfway point of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Officials said King arrived at Iditarod at 1:10 p.m., five minutes ahead of defending champion Martin Buser, and picked up $3,000 in silver ingots for leading at the official midpoint.
