Beth Daniel and Michelle Mackall finished the first round of the Ping-Welch’s Championship with a flourish, creating a five-way tie for the lead.
Dale Eggeling made her charge early, and Meg Mallon and Jill Briles-Hinton were consistent throughout as all five shot five-under-par 67s in the $400,000 event in Tucson.
Trish Johnson, Pat Bradley, Laura Davies, Cindy Rarick, Marianne Morris and Laura Baugh were a shot behind at 68 on the 6,187-yard Randolph Park North course.
