Ducks Lovers and Ducks Haters Face Off

Here is my enthusiastic vote in favor of the names the Mighty Ducks for Anaheim’s new hockey team and the Pond in Anaheim for Anaheim’s new arena.

These are both truly distinctive names. The Mighty Ducks is way more exciting than such boring names as the Kings (far better for Las Vegas), the Lakers (a name imported from Minneapolis), the Dodgers (a stupid name brought here from Brooklyn), the Angels (how cute) and the Rams (how imaginative).

And the Pond outclasses the Inglewood Forum (also better in Las Vegas or Rome), the Atlanta Omni (whatever that means) and similar contrived names.

Hooray for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Hooray for the Pond in Anaheim. Hooray for Disney. Now let’s slide out the first puck and get the game under way.
