COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Stacks Up the Numbers, Completes Sweep of Santa Barbara

Cal State Fullerton completed a three-game sweep of UC Santa Barbara with a 19-1 victory Sunday in a Big West Conference baseball game at Santa Barbara.

Tony Banks had three doubles and drove in four runs for Fullerton (11-7, 3-0 in conference).

Jim Betzsold added two doubles and two RBIs for Fullerton, which had 18 hits including eight doubles, a triple by Craig Skyberg and a two-run home run by Bret Hemphill.

Dante Powell added three hits for Fullerton, which plays host to Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Derek Fahs (2-1) pitched the first five innings for the victory for the Titans, which used 17 players.

UC Santa Barbara, which used 19 players, is 9-13-1, 0-3.

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 8-3, Cal Poly Pomona 0-1--Fullerton had two home runs in each in the sweep at Pomona. Miki Mangan and Tammy Faagata had home runs in the first game and Marci White and Shannon Dolan had home runs in the second game for the Titans.

In the Rebel Spring Softball Games in Orlando, Fla:

Chapman 2, Wayne State 1 (8 innings)--Melanie Schmidlin drove home one run with a ground out and Trisha Cox had a game-winning RBI single as Chapman scored two runs in the eighth inning.

Also on Sunday, the Panthers then beat Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 7-0. Vicky Cavadias had three hits including two doubles and three RBIs for Chapman (7-7).
