Ducks Contact Three More for General Manager

Share

The Mighty Ducks, who might name a general manager for the NHL expansion team by the end of the week, have contacted at least three more candidates, including two from the Calgary Flames.

The Ducks sought and received permission to talk with Al MacNeil, the Flames’ director of hockey operations and former coach, as well as assistant general manager Al Coates, said Flames general manager Doug Risebrough.

The Ducks also have told Ed Chynoweth, commissioner of the Western Hockey League, that he is a candidate, which Chynoweth confirmed.

Tony Tavares, president of Disney Sports Enterprises, and Walt Disney Co. Chairman Michael Eisner interviewed a number of candidates last week, including former Vancouver Canuck and Philadelphia Flyer Coach Bob McCammon, Quebec Nordiques scouting director Pierre Gauthier, and Sherry Bassin, part-owner and general manager of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League.

None of the three newest candidates contacted by the Ducks said he has interviewed with the Ducks in Southern California.
