OXNARD : Suspect Indicted in Rape of Girl, 14

A Ventura County grand jury on Thursday indicted a 19-year-old Oxnard man accused of the kidnap and rape of a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

Juan Carlos Coronado made an initial appearance in Superior Court on Thursday, but his arraignment was continued to March 26, Assistant Dist. Atty. Mark Pachowicz said. Oxnard attorney John Brown, who assisted Coronado in turning himself in to Oxnard police Tuesday, said it was too early to say what plea his client would enter.

“I haven’t even read the grand jury transcript,” Brown said. “Any comment from me would be premature.”

Coronado and Raul Oscar Alamar are accused of approaching the girl and her 17-year-old companion last Oct. 26 while the couple were parked at Mandalay Beach. Coronado and Alamar, 29, of Thousand Oaks, allegedly forced the girl into Alamar’s car, drove her to an undisclosed location and raped her.

The girl was dropped off at her home several hours later, and her mother was able to report the license number of Alamar’s car to Oxnard police, police said. Alamar is scheduled to stand trial April 5.
