NHL ROUNDUP : Lemieux Has Six Points in Penguins’ 7-5 Victory

Mario Lemieux has been back in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ lineup for six games. Thursday, he showed he is back to being Mario Lemieux.

He scored four goals and had two assists in his most productive game since returning to the lineup after sitting out almost two months because of Hodgkin’s disease as the Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals, 7-5, at Pittsburgh.

Lemieux has 45 goals and 118 points in 46 games.

Since returning to the lineup on March 2 after 22 radiation treatments, Lemieux had two goals and six assists in five games.

The Capitals are 2-6-1 in their last nine games.

New Jersey 5, Edmonton 1--Wednesday night, Oiler goalie Bill Ranford gave up three goals on 59 shots as Edmonton defeated the New York Rangers.

Twenty-four hours later at East Rutherford, N.J., Ranford gave up three goals on five shots during the first 5:16 to give the Devils all they would need to end a four-game losing streak.

The loss was a club-record 40th for the Oilers and enabled idle Calgary to clinch a playoff berth.

Toronto 4, Tampa Bay 2--The NHL may talk about a decline in violence, but not on this night in Tampa, where there were three fights, with 119 penalty minutes and six players ejected.

The loss was the fifth in a row for the Lightning.

Detroit 5, Minnesota 1--Dino Ciccarelli scored twice and Keith Primeau had two assists at Detroit as the Red Wings won for the fifth time in their last seven games.

The North Stars have lost a season-high four in a row and eight of 12.

Minnesota goalie Darcy Wakaluk stopped Steve Yzerman on a penalty shot. Yzerman had scored on three of four penalty shots in his career and had not missed since Nov. 22, 1987.

Montreal 5, Quebec 2--Gilbert Dionne had a goal and two assists at Quebec as the Canadiens increased their lead to four points over the second-place Nordiques in the Adams Division, with each club having 12 games to play.

Boston 4, Ottawa 1--Bruin goalie Andy Moog faced only 15 shots in the easy victory at Ottawa.

Winnipeg 5, Vancouver 2--Rookie Teemu Selanne scored his 63rd goal at Vancouver to lead the Jets, who were 0-6 against the Canucks this season.
