NCAA SWIMMING : Stanford Women Get Early Victory
As Stanford ensured itself of victory in the NCAA women’s swimming and diving team championship, Michigan’s Lara Hooiveld set a U.S. Open record Friday at the University of Minnesota.
Stanford won five of Friday’s eight events to lead with 460.5 points. Stanford has won nine of the first 14 events in the three-day event that concludes today.
Florida secured second place with 266 points. UCLA is in seventh with 154 points.
Hooiveld, a sophomore from Brisbane, Australia, broke Tracey McFarland’s 1988 100-yard breaststroke NCAA record in 1 minute 0.47 seconds.
