Second Opinion / OTHER MEDIA : LA OPINION : Promoting Citizenship
The effort of the National Assn. of Latino Elected Officials to promote the naturalization of immigrants of Latino origin, in order to obtain U.S. citizenship, is a decisive action to give our community political participation more in line with its demographic weight and its contribution to the economy.
In contrast with its demographic weight and its large and varied contribution to the economic activity, this ethnic group has a very small proportion of participation in the political life in Southern California.
The fact that such a large sector of the collective has such a scant representation in the organisms and offices of political power constitutes a grave deficiency in our democratic organization. The NALEO campaign deserves the enthusiastic support of all the sectors of the community.
