Ducks May Offer Ticket Price Break

Fans and parents who were upset at the $18 price tag on the “cheap seats” for Mighty Ducks games at Anaheim Arena next season may get some relief.

Team President Tony Tavares said Tuesday that there are plans to allow those who can’t afford that price--or don’t want to pay it--to see hockey in Orange County.

Tavares said that 1,500 to 2,000 tickets in the 17,278-seat facility might be reserved for charity and youth ticket giveaways, and for fans willing to stand in line on game day in exchange for lower prices on a limited number of seats. He declined to name a possible discount price.

“I’m convinced we could sell out in advance if we wanted to,” Tavares said, emphasizing that the team wants to be sure Ducks games are accessible to a wide range of fans.

The team’s first priority is selling season tickets, and Tavares said information will be mailed within the next two weeks to the approximately 16,000 fans who have requested it.

With a list so large, team officials are seeking to trim it by eliminating known scalpers. In addition, Tavares said there will probably be a limit on the number of season tickets each person on the list can buy--perhaps four, with some exceptions.

“If a guy really has five or six kids, we don’t want to say you can only buy four,” Tavares said. “But it’s also not fair for a guy who’s No. 100 on the list to say: ‘Don’t worry about it, guys, I’ll get us 16 tickets.’ ”
