LOS ANGELES : 2 Teen-Agers Plead Guilty to Helping Girl Kill Father
Two teen-agers pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter, respectively, for helping a 14-year-old girl kill her father.
Guido Cuza, 17, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and Evelyn Solorzano, 16, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the June 10, 1992, killing of Daniel Allen.
The victim’s daughter was convicted of first-degree murder two months ago. She was sentenced to the California Youth Authority until she turns 25.
Cuza faces a maximum sentence of 20 years to life in prison and Solorzano faces a possible 11-year term. The teen-agers, who were tried as adults, had faced charges of first-degree murder.
Prosecutors contend that the victim’s daughter asked her boyfriend, Cuza, and a schoolmate, Solorzano, to murder her father because he was too strict. In a conversation recorded by police, the girl confessed to planning and carrying out the killing. She said she wanted to “get away from my father, so he would stop hitting me.”
The girl lived with her father, a graphic artist, in Highland Park.
