Christian Science Church to Fold Magazine: The Christian Science Church said it will cease publication of World Monitor, its 4-year-old monthly news magazine, with the May issue. The magazine’s goal of breaking even by 1991 was not met “and it appears doubtful it would be reached in several more years,” the church said. The closing will affect fewer than 25 employees, officials said. The move is the latest media retrenchment by the cash-strapped church, which last year ended an ambitious cable and broadcast television enterprise born in the mid-1980s that resulted in losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.
