NPR Under Fire: National Public Radio, usually attacked by conservatives, is being scolded by a liberal media watchdog group for being too white, too male and too cozy with Washington insiders. In a report being issued today, New York-based Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting said an analysis of four months of NPR programming found that only 21% of NPR’s news sources were women; all but one of the 27 regular commentators were white and 23 were men; and 28% of domestic stories were reported from Washington. A spokeswoman for NPR, Mary Morgan, defended the network’s programming. She also said the network has been trying to attract more minority and women’s voices.
