NHL ROUNDUP : Penguins Win 10th in Row, Clinch Patrick Division Title

Mario Lemieux had a goal and two assists and extended his point-scoring streak to 10 games as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Washington Capitals, 4-1, Sunday, at Landover, Md., clinching their second Patrick Division title in three years.

Winger Kevin Stevens added a goal and an assist as Pittsburgh won its 10th consecutive game, a franchise record.

“We felt we were going to win the Patrick Division,” Stevens said. “Now we’re just trying to build for the playoffs.”

Lemieux’s late-game empty-net goal extended his goal-scoring streak to seven games.

Buffalo 3, Ottawa 1--Alexander Mogilny scored his league-leading 73rd goal, and Pat LaFontaine reached the 50-goal mark for the second time in his career as the Sabres dealt the Senators their 38th road defeat this season.

Quebec 3, New York Rangers 2--Claude Lapointe scored with 1:36 left as the Nordiques won behind the goaltending of Stephane Fiset at New York.

Fiset, the Nordiques’ backup goalie, made 40 saves including several late in the third period.

Toronto 4, Calgary 0--Toronto’s Nikolai Borschevsky scored two goals, and Daren Puppa posted the shutout at Calgary.

Making his sixth start as a Maple Leaf, Puppa recorded his fifth victory and second shutout. He turned aside 28 shots.

Chicago 3, Hartford 0--Ed Belfour recorded his league-leading seventh shutout of the season and Steve Smith scored twice as the Blackhawks clinched a playoff berth at Chicago.
