Alhambra : New Police Station Delayed
Plans to build a new police station hit a snag this week.
The City Council on Monday delayed awarding a contract to build a 36,000-square-foot police facility to the lowest bidder after a challenge by a rival company.
The council delayed a decision until April 12, when City Atty. Leland Dolley will provide a legal opinion on whether Centex Golden Construction provided sufficient information about its subcontractors.
Centex, of San Diego, said it could build the station for $13.85 million. Swinnerton & Walberg Co. of Los Angeles, which issued the challenge and made the second-lowest bid at $13.959 million, would be awarded the contract if Centex’s bid is rejected.
City officials say they expect to open the new station in July, 1994.
