More ‘Cheers’: Her return to the set was friendly, but Shelley Long says that since her departure from the series, star Ted Danson “has admitted to me that there were comments made . . . shortly after I left. . . . I guess in some ways they felt that I abandoned them and put them in jeopardy.” In an interview in the April 10 TV Guide, Long reflects on her departure: “I noticed that, near the end, I started being treated like Diane. . . . Diane was intimidating to some and a pain in the butt to others, and I think the people of ‘Cheers’ got me confused with that. Maybe I did too, which convinced me it was time to let go of that persona.”
