NHL ROUNDUP : Red Wings Move Into First on Lidstrom’s Two Goals

The Detroit Red Wings used the stick of Nicklas Lidstrom to move past the Chicago Blackhawks and into first place in the Norris Division.

Lidstrom scored the last two goals in Detroit’s 3-1 victory over the Blackhawks at Chicago.

The Red Wings have 95 points, one more than Chicago and two more than the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Pittsburgh 10, Hartford 2--Mario Lemieux took back the NHL scoring lead with two goals and an assist and Rick Tocchet had three goals at Pittsburgh as the Penguins recorded their 12th consecutive victory.

The Penguins set a season high for goals and margin of victory.

The Penguins extended a team record for consecutive victories and set a franchise mark for most consecutive games without a loss. Pittsburgh was 7-0-4 in February of 1976.

Lemieux has scored goals in nine consecutive games and has points in 12 consecutive games.

He has 40 points in 14 games since returning from treatment for Hodgkin’s disease.

Quebec 4, Ottawa 2--Curtis Leschyshyn scored twice at Ottawa to help the Nordiques move into a tie for first in the Adams Division with the Montreal Canadiens.

The loss was Ottawa’s 11th in a row.

Vancouver 5, Tampa Bay 3--Geoff Courtnall scored the tie-breaking goal in the third period at Tampa Bay and Pavel Bure had a goal and an assist to become the first Canuck to reach 100 points.

Calgary 5, Minnesota 3--Joel Otto had two goals and an assist at Calgary as the Flames won for only the second time in their last seven games.

Winnipeg 9, San Jose 5--Rookie star Teemu Selanne scored two goals and added two assists at Daly City in the Jets’ biggest offensive effort of the season. Selanne has 122 points (73 goals, 49 assists).

The Sharks have lost 11 in a row.
