LAGUNA BEACH : Dog Contest to Raise Funds for Pet Cause

Share

The Laguna Canyon Conservancy will turn to man’s best friend on Sunday to help stop the planned San Joaquin Hills toll road, which will cut through the city’s greenbelt.

To raise funds for the effort against the highway, the environmental group will have the Laguna Canyon Pretty Dog Contest at 11 a.m. at the Laguna Canyon Dog Park.

City canines will compete for honors such as prettiest dog, most slobbery, curliest, best tail-wagger, best Frisbee catcher, and pooch that most resembles its owner. There are 20 categories in all.

Conservancy members said the contest is a natural for a city in which dogs are popular enough to have their own park--one that is often filled to capacity on weekends.

“This is a town that really loves dogs,” said Sandy Lucas, chairwoman of the conservancy. “People have been coming up to me on the street to tell me how great their dog is. They love the idea.”

Entries are $5 for each category. The funds will be used for legal expenses incurred fighting the toll road. For more information about the event, call (714) 494-8190.
