Fire Damages Van Nuys Commercial Building
An explosion and a fire damaged a commercial building in an industrial park near Van Nuys Airport on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A fire was reported at the one-story structure in the 16700 block of Stagg Street at 7:10 p.m. and about 40 firefighters put the blaze out about 20 minutes later, said department spokesman Phil Weireter.
“There was an explosion before we got there,” Weireter said. “A large commercial building was burning through the roof.”
The cause of the blaze was still under investigation, he said, and the department had not completed an estimate of the damage.
About 20 businesses are housed in the 200-foot-by-300-foot building, Weireter said.
