THE WINE LIST

Share

Chef Patrick Healy, in the tradition of European bistros, has made sure that bottles of local wines are included on the wine list. But among the two dozen bistro-type wines listed he’s also included such eclectic European finds as a Faugeres (a bold red of the Languedoc), a Chinon (Cabernet Franc from the Loire), a Cahors (the “black wine” of the south of France) and Cassis (a crisp and delicate white wine of Provence).

Prices for these wines are fair, averaging $25 a bottle. The remainder of the list also offers some good values, though a few wines that are hard to come by are marked up to three times their cost.

Still, a wine as superb as 1991 J. Rochioli Sauvignon Blanc is just $22; 1990 Thomas Fogarty Gewurztraminer, one of the best in the state, is $18, and the bargain of the list is the stylish 1990 Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling at $13.

The creative red wine list includes good Burgundies and Bordeaux along with a lot of well-regarded California wines, many from past vintages. Among the good values are 1989 Ravenswood Zinfandel, $18, and 1990 Lazy Creek Pinot Noir, $28.

Some good buys in magnum-size bottles are Domaine Chandon Brut for $45 and 1989 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay for $56.
